White Birch is a newly-approved community in far south-west Edmonton, within the Riverview area plan. White Birch's boundaries are found at the neighbouring community of Grandisle to the north, Winterburn Road (215 Street) to the west, 41 Avenue SW to the south, and the North Saskatchewan River valley to the east. The community plan was established in 2016, and the community has yet to begin development. Some parts of the community already contain existing acreage properties. The development plan of White Birch calls for primarily residential use. The population of the entire Riverview area at the 2016 census was only 446, being existing rural residents in the area.

White Birch's location allows easy access to south and west Edmonton, as well as around the outskirts of the city, via the nearby Anthony Henday Drive ring road. This route offers a quick commute to numerous industrial and commercial employment areas. Commercial amenities will found nearby to the community, including a district-level commercial plaza along 199 Street and several surrounding convenience plazas. Further commercial development is continuing in the area, as well as to the north along Winterburn Road or 199 Street. A little further, within Windermere or Lessard, you'll find more amenities, or at the large West Edmonton Mall. The River Cree Casino and Resort is located nearby, a short drive to the north along Winterburn Road. Extensive green space is planned within White Birch, beginning with a local park, a large natural area, and continuing into the North Saskatchewan River valley, which also offers abundant green space and recreational opportunities. There is one school planned within White Birch, and a total of four schools are planned within the greater Riverview area. Two schools already exist within the nearby community of The Hamptons; Sister Annata Brockman Elementary/Junior High School and Bessie Nichols School.
