West Jasper Place is a community in west Edmonton, which was originally part of the Town of Jasper Place, annexed into Edmonton in 1964. The community’s boundaries are found at 156 Street to the west, 149 Street to the east, 95 Avenue to the south, and Stony Plain Road to the north. West Jasper Place was developed beginning in the 1930s, continuing into the 1940s and 50s. In the decades following, many low-rise apartment buildings were built near Stony Plain Road. Today, more than half the residences in West Jasper Place are low-rise apartments, while most of the interior of the community is made up of single-family detached homes with a few scattered duplexes. The population of West Jasper Place is 3,068, with the majority of residents being renters.
West Jasper Place’s location allows easy access to many industrial employment areas throughout the west end, and downtown Edmonton is just a short drive away along Stony Plain Road. Many commercial amenities can be found along Stony Plain Road, within West Jasper Place or nearby, or at Mayfield Common, Meadowlark Shopping Centre, or at Jasper Gates within the north-east corner of West Jasper Place. Each of these centres offers grocery stores, convenience, food, and other stores and services. There is a centrally located park area with the West Jasper Sherwood Community League, sports facilities, and a playground. The only school in the community is Sherwood School, though Glendale School, Meadowlark Christian School, Crestwood School, and St. Paul Elementary School are located in adjacent communities. The Orange Hub event space is located in the community of West Jasper Place.
