Sweet Grass is a community in south Edmonton, named for the Cree Indian Chief Sweet Grass, one of the early west’s first conservationists and instrumental in the protection of the endangered plains bison. The community's boundaries are found at 119 Street to the west, 111 Street to the east, 34 Avenue to the north, and a utility corridor near Saddleback Road to the south. Sweet Grass was developed primarily in the 1970s, and the community is made up of roughly 40% single-family detached homes, 30% townhouses, and 20% low-rise apartment buildings. The population is 2,677, with Sweet Grass residents mostly being homeowners.

Sweet Grass' location allows easy access to much of south and west Edmonton via Whitemud Drive and Calgary Trail, and downtown Edmonton is just a short drive away along Gateway Boulevard. Good transit connections lead to the two nearby LRT stations. Many commercial amenities can be found nearby along the Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard corridor, including a Superstore, Save-On-Foods, T&T Supermarket, Homesense, Winners, Petland, Chapters, JYSK, Walmart, and numerous other stores, services, food options, banks, and more. There is a small convenience plaza at Saddleback Road, and another shopping area at Century Park, with a Safeway, boutique stores, and services. The large Southgate Centre is located nearby, as well as Whitemud Crossing. There is a large central park area within Sweet Grass, offering a playground, sports fields, and the Sweet Grass School. The Providence Renewal Centre, a retreat centre with large gardens, is located in the western part of the community, and The Derrick Golf and Winter Club is just across 119 Street. St. Theresa Catholic School is also located nearby.
