Summerside is a large community in south-east Edmonton, named after a city on Prince Edward Island. The community was built with a nautical charm as found in an east-coast village, with a large man-made lake being the central focus of Summerside. The community's boundaries are found at Ellerslie Road to the north, 66 Street to the east, 25 Avenue SW to the south, and 91 Street to the west.
Summerside's development began in the early 2000s, and has continued at a careful pace since. Much of the construction has completed. Summerside homes for sale will mainly be single-family detached homes, which make up around 60% the residential units in the community. 20% is made up of low- and mid-rise condo buildings, 10% of duplexes, and the remaining 10% of real estate in Summerside is made up of townhouses. The population of Summerside at the 2016 census was 13,360, and the majority of residents are homeowners, with a high proportion of young families.
Summerside's location allows easy access to south Edmonton especially, but also other parts of the city's outskirts, via the nearby Anthony Henday Drive ring road. This offers Summerside residents easy connections to various employment areas across south, west, and east Edmonton, Sherwood Park, and Nisku. The Edmonton International Airport is also a short drive away. Summerside offers good transit connections, and is reasonably walkable.
Many commercial amenities can be found nearby, including at the west edge of the community and on Ellerslie Road. Here, you'll find a Save-On-Foods, RONA, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, banks, eateries, coffee, entertainment, and other stores and services. A little further, South Edmonton Common offers a full range of big box stores, fashion shopping, a cinema, and much more.
The community's primary recreational feature, though far from the only one, is the Summerside Lake. This man-made lake covers 13 hectares, and is 28 feet deep. Many properties border this lake, and the Summerside Beach Club and Summerside Residents Association, open only to Summerside residents, maintains a beach, playground, dock, picnic facilities, and tennis courts. Several other ponds and parks offer green space, playgrounds, sports fields, and more to residents across other parts of the community, and they're all connected by multi-use trails winding throughout Summerside.
Summerside has two schools, Father Michael Mireau Elementary/Junior High School and Michael Strembitsky Elementary/Junior High School. Jan Reimer School, Shauna May Seneca School, Corpus Christi School, and Ellerslie Primary are also located in adjacent communities. Central Baptist Church and RCCG Christ Church are located within Summerside, with Evangel Baptist Church, Edmonton Central Korean Presbyterian Church, Grace Point Church of God, and St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church are close. Other landmarks around Summerside are the Ellerslie Curling Club, several indoor playgrounds, escape rooms, and numerous gyms.
