Steinhauer is a community in south Edmonton, named for Henry Bird Steinhauer, an Ojibway missionary from Upper Canada who settled in Alberta during the 19th century. The community’s boundaries are found at Calgary Trail to the east, 111 Street to the west, 34 Avenue to the north, and a utility corridor to the south beyond 30 Avenue. Steinhauer was developed primarily in the 1970s, and the community is made up of more than 70% single-family detached homes, with the remainder mostly being townhouses. The population is 2,127, with Steinhauer residents mostly being homeowners.

Steinhauer's location allows easy access to much of south and west Edmonton via Whitemud Drive and Calgary Trail, and downtown Edmonton is just a short drive away along Gateway Boulevard. Good transit connections lead to the two nearby LRT stations. Many commercial amenities can be found nearby along the Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard corridor, including a Superstore, Save-On-Foods, T&T Supermarket, Homesense, Winners, Petland, Chapters, JYSK, Walmart, and numerous other stores, services, food options, banks, and more. A small convenience plaza is also located within the community. The large Southgate Centre is located nearby, as well as Whitemud Crossing. There is a large central park area within Steinhauer, offering a playground, sports fields, skating rinks, and the Steinhauer School. St. Augustine Catholic Elementary School and DS Mackenzie Junior High School are also located nearby.
