Starling is a developing community in far west Edmonton, within the Big Lakes area north of the Yellowhead Trail. Starling's boundaries are found at the Anthony Henday Drive corridor to the south, Ray Gibbon Drive to the east, 137 Avenue to the north, and 199 Street to the west. The community began development as recently as the 2010s. The development plan calls for a majority of single-family detached homes, with some medium-density housing such as duplexes and townhouses, and extensive green space to take advantage of the community's natural setting. The population at the 2016 census was 654, with the vast majority of Starling residents being homeowners.
Starling's location allows easy access to north and west Edmonton and to St. Albert, as well as around the outskirts of the city via the adjacent Anthony Henday Drive ring road. This route offers a quick commute to numerous industrial and commercial employment areas across Edmonton and surrounding areas. Commercial amenities will be found nearby and within the community, including several scattered community-level convenience plazas and a larger district-level shopping centre at Winterburn Road near the Yellowhead Trail. A little further you'll find more amenities, whether in St. Albert, at St. Albert Trail, or at the large West Edmonton Mall. The planned green space within Starling will be extensive, including various tree stands and natural areas as well as small community parks and ponds. The Glendale Golf & Country Club and Dragons Head Golf Course are located within the adjacent Pintail Landing community, and the Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park is located across 137 Avenue. No schools are planned for Starling, though several will be located in adjacent Big Lake communities.
