South West Edmonton is an area of Edmonton, comprised of areas such as Riverbend, Terwillegar, Rabbit Hill, Windermere, Heritage Valley, Rutherford, Riverview, Aspen Gardens, and Twin Brooks. The area is found roughly south of Whitemud Drive, west of Calgary Trail, and south-east of the North Saskatchewan River with the exception of the Riverview area on the west side of the river. Some communities in South West Edmonton, especially in the north-eastern parts, are as old as the 1940s or 50s, while many other communities developed through the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. A building boom in the 2000s saw many more communities added to the southern reaches of Edmonton, extending the South West Edmonton area greatly. Some of these communities are still continuing construction today. Housing through the area is mixed, with many single-family detached homes. Other real estate in South West Edmonton includes duplexes, townhouses and low-rise condo buildings, especially located around major roadways and parks.
