Satoo, a small community in south-east Edmonton, was named to honour Chief Satoo in memory of the area's earliest Cree settlement, as the Mill Woods area was a Cree Indian reserve between 1876 and 1891. The community’s boundaries are found at 91 Street to the west, Mill Woods Road and 80 Street to the east, 23 Avenue to the north, and the Anthony Henday Drive ring road to the south. Knottwood Road NW bisects Satoo and offers residents easy access to city bus services. Satoo was originally developed in the 1970s, and is made up of 70% single-family detached homes and 25% row housing, with a few duplexes and low-rise apartments scattered throughout. The population is 3,282, with the majority of Satoo residents owning their homes.
Satoo's location allows easy access to many industrial employment areas across south and east Edmonton, as well as the Edmonton Research and Development Park to the west, South Edmonton Common, and easy access around the outside of the city via Anthony Henday Drive. Satoo is one of 3 communities that comprise the Knottwood Community League, founded in 1977. Satoo residents are served by a local 7-Eleven and a Shell gas station. The adjacent Mill Woods Park offers the residents of Satoo access to the Mill Woods Recreation Centre, Mill Woods Farmers' Market, the Community Recycling Depot, the Mill Woods Skate Park, a track field, football field, and much more. Residents have a short drive to Mill Woods Town Centre, which offers further health services, commercial, recreational and educational facilities. Many further commercial amenities can be found nearby at South Edmonton Common, and The Grey Nuns Community Hospital is a short drive away in the community of Tawa. Satoo was designed with a number of strategically placed walkways to promote easy pedestrian and bicycle travel within the community, including a park-like pipeline right-of-way. The Satoo Park, located centrally, offers baseball diamonds, soccer fields, a playground, various other sports fields and the community's 2 schools; Satoo School and Dan Knott School. Knottwood Community Hall and St Patrick's Anglican Church are located within the neighbourhood.
