Rural South East is the classification for a large part of the Decoteau area plan in far south-east Edmonton, which will eventually be broken into smaller communities as it is developed. The general area plan's boundaries are found at 50 Street and 34 Street to the west, Ellerslie Road and the Anthony Henday Drive to the north, Meridian (1) Street to the east, and 41 Avenue SW to the south. The Area Structure Plan (ASP) for Decoteau was approved in 2015, with a constituent Neighbourhood Structure Plan (NSP) approved for Decoteau North in 2018. This NSP primarily deals with the lands north of Ellerslie Road, connected to the Anthony Henday Drive via the central 17 Street, and is not included in the Rural South East MLS area. Decoteau North is expected to house nearly 10,000 people, with a commercial area and extensive green spaces and natural areas.

The broader Rural South East area, as it develops into Decoteau, will include plenty of parks, schools, and community facilities, with a broad mix of housing types. Connections to the rest of the city are provided by the Anthony Henday Drive ring road to the north and Calgary Trail to the west, which is accessible via Ellerslie Road and 41 Avenue SW. This provides easy access to Nisku, Leduc, and the Edmonton International Airport. 50 Street, at the west of the area, provides a quick commute to Beaumont.
