Royal Gardens is a community in south Edmonton, named for Joseph Royal, who was the lieutenant governor of the Northwest Territories between 1888 and 1893. The community’s boundaries are found at 119 Street to the west, 111 Street to the east, 40 Avenue to the south, and Whitemud Drive to the north. Royal Gardens was developed primarily in the 1960s, and is made up of single-family detached homes across most of the community's land, with medium-density developments such as low-and mid-rise apartments and row housing along 119 Street and 40 Avenue. These higher density developments account for nearly 60% of Royal Gardens real estate units. The population is 3,393, with Royal Gardens residents split between renters and homeowners.

Royal Gardens' location allows easy access to much of south and west Edmonton via Whitemud Drive and Calgary Trail, and downtown Edmonton is just a short drive away along Gateway Boulevard. An LRT station across Whitemud Drive, at Southgate Centre, allows for easy public transit access. Many commercial amenities can be found nearby, including the large Southgate Centre, located immediately across Whitemud Drive, and at Whitemud Crossing in the adjacent community of Rideau Park. Here, you'll find a RONA, Staples, a branch of the Edmonton Public Library, and numerous conveniences. There are two park areas within Royal Gardens, offering playgrounds, sports fields, a skating rink, picnic facilities, tennis courts, the Confederation Leisure Centre, Derrick Skating Club, and Royal Gardens Community League. The access to Rainbow Valley Park and the Whitemud Creek Ravine is also found immediately outside Royal Gardens. Harry Ainlay High School, Louis St. Laurent School, Richard Secord Elementary School, and St. Boniface Catholic Elementary School are located within Royal Gardens.
