Quesnell Heights is a small, secluded community in west Edmonton. The origin of the community’s name is unclear. The community’s boundaries are found where Quesnell Heights meets Rio Terrace at 149 Street to the west, Whitemud Drive to the north and east immediately west of the bridge, and the North Saskatchewan River valley to the south. Quesnell Heights was developed through the 1960s and 70s, with the community’s real estate being made up entirely of single-family detached homes. The population of Quesnell Heights is only 372, and the vast majority of these are homeowners and long-term residents.
Quesnell Heights’s location allows easy access to many industrial employment areas throughout the west end, the nearby West Edmonton Mall, downtown Edmonton, and many other parts of west and south Edmonton via Whitemud Drive. Many commercial amenities, besides those at West Edmonton Mall, can be found at Meadowlark Shopping Centre. Here, you’ll find grocery stores, convenience, food, and other stores and services. Further, Patricia Heights offers several community-level conveniences near 156 Street. In case the beautiful river valley views and trails aren’t enough, there is also a greenspace located centrally in Quesnell Heights. Immediately adjacent, in Rio Terrace, you’ll find a park with a playground and sports facilities, beside the Rio Terrace School. A pedestrian bridge also links the community with Laurier Heights, immediately across Whitemud Drive, allowing walking access to the Valley Zoo and Laurier Heights School.
