Pleasantview is a community in south central Edmonton, named for the noticeable elevation difference across the community, with a hill near the centre. The community’s boundaries are found at Calgary Trail to the east, 111 Street to the west, 61 Avenue to the north, and 51 Avenue to the south. Pleasantview was developed through the 1940s and 50s, as much of the land in Pleasantview was sold to returning World War II veterans under the Veteran's Land Act. Today, the residential use of the community is made up of more than 40% single-family detached homes and 25% low-rise apartments and condos, with the remainder split between duplexes, fourplexes, townhouses, and mid- to high-rise buildings. The population is 3,902, with Pleasantview residents split between renters and homeowners.
Pleasantview’s location allows easy access to much of south and west Edmonton via Whitemud Drive, and downtown Edmonton and the University of Alberta are just a short drive away. A nearby LRT station at Southgate Centre offers transit access, while Southgate Centre itself offers a broad range of shopping convenience. Further commercial amenities can be found within Pleasantview and nearby, along Calgary Trail and other major corridors. Two park areas within the community offer playgrounds, picnic facilities, sports fields, a skating rink, tennis courts, and the Pleasantview Community League. The Mount Pleasant School is the only school located within Pleasantview, while Allendale School, McKee School, Avalon School, Lendrum School, and St. Martin Catholic Elementary School are all located close nearby.
