Patricia Heights is a community in west Edmonton, which was originally part of the Town of Jasper Place, annexed into Edmonton in 1964. Patricia Heights was named after Princess Patricia, daughter of a Governor-General of Canada and granddaughter of Queen Victoria. The community’s boundaries are found at 156 Street to the east, Whitemud Drive to the north, and the Patricia Ravine to the south and west. Patricia Heights was developed mostly through the 1960s, with around 50% of the community being made up of single-family detached homes. The remainder of Patricia Heights real estate is low-rise apartments, primarily located around 159 Street near Whitemud Drive. The population of Patricia Heights is 1,725, and the majority of residents are homeowners.
Patricia Heights’s location allows easy access to many industrial employment areas throughout the west end, the adjacent West Edmonton Mall, downtown Edmonton, and many other parts of west and south Edmonton via Whitemud Drive. Many commercial amenities, besides those at West Edmonton Mall, can be found at Meadowlark Shopping Centre. Each of these centres offers grocery stores, convenience, food, and other stores and services. Further, Patricia Heights offers several community-level conveniences near 156 Street. Besides the primary feature of the beautiful Patricia Ravine and the river valley views, there is also a park located around the Patricia Heights School with a playground and sports fields. Immediately adjacent, in Rio Terrace, you’ll also find a community league, another park, and the Rio Terrace School.
