Ozerna is a Ukrainian word for “lake area”, following the general naming pattern of the Lake District. The boundaries of Ozerna are formed by 167 and 153 Avenues to the north and south, 66 Street to the east, and the adjacent community of Mayliewan to the west at 73 Street. Ozerna’s development began in the 1990s, continuing through the 2000s. The neighbourhood is almost fully residential, with 80% single-family detached homes and the remainder being duplexes, row houses, and apartments. Ozerna’s population is 4,390, with the vast majority owning their homes and being long-term residents.
Ozerna’s location allows easy access to the Anthony Henday Drive ring road and to Yellowhead Trail, offering quick commutes to many areas such as St Albert, Sherwood Park, downtown Edmonton, and CFB Edmonton at Namao. The community of Ozerna is built around a lake and large park, with interconnected green spaces and pathways cutting though the neighbourhood. Londonderry Mall is a short drive south, while further shopping is available to the west at 97 Street in Eaux Claires, providing a Sobeys, Save-On-Foods, Canadian Tire, Lowe’s, banks, clinics, and numerous other shops and services. The school of St. John Bosco is located immediately adjacent in Mayliewan, while the Edmonton Christian Northeast School and M.E. Lazerte High School are both located nearby.
