Minchau, a small community in south-east Edmonton and within Mill Woods, is named in honour of August Minchau, who immigrated from Poland in 1894 and settled in the Mill Woods area. The community of Minchau was designed in a triangle pattern with its boundaries being 34 Street to the east, 50 Street to the west, 34 Avenue to the south, and the Mill Creek Ravine to the north/northeast. Minchau was originally developed in the 1980s, and is made up of 70% single-family detached homes and 10% low-rise apartments, with row housing and duplexes scattered throughout. The population is 3,131, with Minchau residents split between homeowners and renters.

The location of Minchau allows for easy access to many industrial employment areas throughout south and east Edmonton, as well as Whitemud Drive via both 50 Street and 34 Street, access to the Anthony Henday Drive ring road via 50 Street, and the Grey Nuns Community Hospital via 34 Avenue. The residents of Minchau are served by the Aspenwood Shopping Centre, which offers a Circle K gas station, hair salons, places to eat, and more. Further commercial amenities can be found a short drive away at Mill Woods Town Centre, which offers Co-op Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, Millwoods Registry Services, multiple restaurants, banks, and numerous other food, stores, and services. A branch of the Edmonton Public Library is located here. Many further commercial amenities can be found nearby at South Edmonton Common. Recreational opportunities for Minchau residents include a large multi-purpose recreational site adjacent to the Mill Creek Ravine, which offers Minchau School, Ridgewood Community League, a playground, skating rink, baseball diamonds, and more sports fields, besides Mill Creek Ravine access.
