Mill Woods is an area plan in south-east Edmonton, comprised of twenty-four residential communities: Bisset, Crawford Plains, Daly Grove, Ekota, Greenview, Hillview, Jackson Heights, Kameyosek, Kiniski Gardens, Lee Ridge, Menisa, Meyokumin, Meyonohk, Michaels Park, Mill Woods Town Centre, Minchau, Pollard Meadows, Richfield, Sakaw, Satoo, Tawa, Tipaskan, Tweddle Place, and Weinlos. The area’s boundaries are found at the Anthony Henday Drive corridor to the south, 91 Street to the west, Whitemud Drive to the north, and 34 Street to the east. The Mill Woods Development Concept was established in 1971, as the first full-scale town centre development concept in Edmonton. Development began soon after, with most communities being built out by the 1990s. The central part of Mill Woods serves as a regional centre, with shopping, transit, offices, professional services, and a library. Housing through the area is mixed, though heavy in single-family detached homes. Other real estate in Mill Woods includes townhouses, duplexes, and low-rise condo buildings. The total population of Mill Woods is nearly 80,000.
Mill Woods' location allows easy access to commercial and employment opportunities throughout a large part of south and east Edmonton via the adjacent Anthony Henday Drive ring road or Whitemud Drive, which open up easy access to services around Edmonton. The nearby Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard corridor also makes for a quick commute to downtown Edmonton and Whyte Ave, as well as Nisku and the Edmonton International Airport. The large Grey Nuns Community Hospital is located near the centre of Mill Woods, with attendant clinics and professional centres. A new LRT line is scheduled to open in 2020, bringing three new stations into Mill Woods. A transit-oriented redevelopment is planned for the centre of Mill Woods. Residents of the area are served by a large shopping centre in the Mill Woods Town Centre community, as well as the Millbourne Market Mall and countless small convenience plazas. South Edmonton Common is also located nearby. There are numerous parks and green spaces spread throughout Mill Woods, as well as small ponds. The Mill Creek Ravine, which the area plan takes its name from, cuts through the north-east part of Mill Woods. The Mill Woods Recreation Centre offers many recreational opportunities, along with the adjacent Mill Woods Park, and the Mill Woods Golf Course lies in the northern reaches of Mill Woods. The area also offers a wide variety of schools and churches.
