Mill Woods Town Centre, a community in south-east Edmonton, is the heart of the Mill Woods area. The Mill Woods area contains 24 communities, and is named for the Mill Creek and the trees abundant nearby. The boundaries of the Mill Woods Town Centre are found at 50 Street to the east, 28 Avenue to the north, 66 Street to the west, and 23 Avenue to the south. The community of Mill Woods Town Centre is an important focal point of commercial, social, and cultural activity in Mill Woods, with a large regional shopping centre, office developments, a city bus terminal, library, and more. The residential uses exist only in the eastern half of the community, beginning construction in the 1990s and continuing into the 2000s. The real estate here is entirely made up of low-rise apartments and condos, gathered around a central storm pond and park area. The population is 1,180, with the majority of Mill Woods Town Centre residents owning their homes.
The location of Mill Woods Town Centre allows for easy access to many industrial and commercial employment areas throughout south and east Edmonton, as well as easy transit access via the central bus terminal. An LRT station at the north end of the community is scheduled to open in 2020. Residents of Mill Woods Town Centre have easy access to the shopping centre within the community and an adjacent plaza across 28 Avenue, which together offer a Co-op Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, Canadian Tire, banks, food, and much more. Many further commercial amenities can be found nearby at South Edmonton Common. The main recreational focus of Mill Woods Town Centre is a central storm pond with surrounding parkland and multi-use trails. There are no schools within Mill Woods Town Centre, however, numerous schools are located within adjacent communities.
A new plan for the Mill Woods Town Centre proposes an extensive redevelopment of the western half of the community over time, to create more transit-oriented development around the new LRT station. This will bring a pedestrian-focused complex of commercial amenities, green spaces, easily accessible bus stops, and approximately 1,750 more residential units closer to the LRT station.
