Lewis Estates is an area plan in west Edmonton, also known as Lewis Farms. Lewis Estates contains an abundance of green space, with the Lewis Estates Golf Course winding through the eastern parts of Lewis Estates and connecting several natural areas, ponds, and parkland. Lewis Estates' boundaries are found at Stony Plain Road (Highway 16A) to the north, 231 Street to the west, Whitemud Drive to the south, and the Anthony Henday Drive corridor to the east.
Lewis Estates is made up of seven residential communities: Breckenridge Greens, Potter Greens, Rosenthal, Secord, Stewart Greens, Suder Greens, and Webber Greens. These communities are each named for an early pioneer in the area. The Lewis Farms Area Structure Plan (ASP) was approved in 1988, though only a little development occurred before the 2000s. Some construction continues today, especially in the western half of Lewis Estates. Lewis Estates homes for sale will mainly be single-family detached homes, typically larger, prestigious homes taking advantage of the green space and views. This housing type makes up well over two-thirds of the real estate in Lewis Estates. The remaining residential units are comprised of a mix of low-rise condo and apartment buildings, townhouses, and duplexes. The population of the Lewis Estates area in 2016 was less than 14,000, though it continues to grow.
Lewis Estates' location allows easy access to south and west Edmonton. Whitemud Drive, a major east-west connector freeway, runs across the southern boundary of Lewis Estates, and the adjacent Anthony Henday Drive ring road also offers a quick commute around the outskirts of the city, connecting to many commercial and industrial employment areas including those in St. Albert, and north, south, and west Edmonton. The nearby Stony Plain Road and Yellowhead Drive freeways also connect Lewis Estates residents to Spruce Grove and Stony Plain.
Some commercial amenities can be found within Lewis Estates, including a large plaza at Webber Greens Drive near the Anthony Henday Drive, which offers a Sobeys, Shoppers Drug Mart, banks, restaurants, coffee, and more. Several smaller convenience plazas also exist, with further commercial development planned within Lewis Estates. For anything else, there are larger plazas to the south within Granville and The Hamptons, and the large West Edmonton Mall is also located nearby. The River Cree Resort and Casino is located immediately south of Lewis Estates.
Lewis Estates has an abundance of greenery, as the previously mentioned Lewis Estates Golf Course provides plentiful opportunities for homes to back onto its many greens and fairways while it winds throughout several communities in Lewis Estates. There also exist several natural areas and numerous centralized parks within Lewis Estates' communities. A larger district park is planned, along with the Lewis Farms Recreation Centre, which will include a dive tank, pool, gyms, and skating rinks, a branch of the Edmonton Public Library, a splash park, skate park, and more.
Lewis Estates has many schools, including David Thomas King School, Bishop David Motiuk School, Michael Phair School, Winterburn School, and Lewis Estates School, with several more schools coming soon. Winterburn United Church, West Meadows Baptist Church, Spirit West United Church, and Covenant Christian Reformed Church are in the area.
