Leger is a community in south-west Edmonton. The community is named in honour of Edmund Hugh Leger, a city council member and alderman in Edmonton for over 25 years. The community's boundaries are found at Terwillegar Drive to the west, Rabbit Hill Road to the east, 23 Avenue to the south, and a utility right-of-way to the north. Leger Way bisects the community, proving residents with easy access to city bus services. Development in Leger occurred during the late 1990s, with commercial, institutional and facility development, such as the Terwillergar Community Recreation Centre, beginning in the mid-late 2000s. Housing is made up of nearly 80% single-family detached homes, with the remainder being duplexes. The population is 2,462, with the majority of Leger residents owning their homes.
Leger's location allows easy access to commercial and employment opportunities throughout a large part of south Edmonton via 23 Avenue and along Terwillegar Drive. The Anthony Henday Drive ring road and Whitemud Drive, a short drive away to the south and north respectively, open up easy access to services around Edmonton. Leger residents are served by amenities in a commercial site located around the southeast corner of the community which offers GoodLife Fitness, Save-On-Foods, Esso, banks, eateries, shops, and more. Further amenities can be found a short drive away at the Currents at Windermere, which offers many of the larger commercial amenities such as Walmart, Cabela's, Home Depot, Safeway, Cineplex Odeon, multiple restaurants, banks and numerous other stores, and services. The west side of the Leger community is home to The Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre, which offers residents of the greater community many recreational activities, sports fields, and 3 surrounding schools: Lillian Osborne High School, Mother Margaret Mary Catholic School, and Archbishop Joseph MacNeil Catholic School. Leger contains a number of different pedestrian and bicycle pathways that connect to the recreational facilities and commercial amenities, in order to promote physical activity for residents.
