Lansdowne is a community in south central Edmonton, named for the Earl of Lansdowne, a Governor-General of Canada in the 1880s. The community’s boundaries are found at 122 Street to the east, the Whitemud Creek Ravine to the west, the University Farms to the north past 52 Avenue, and Whitemud Drive to the south. Lansdowne was developed almost entirely in the 1960s, and is made up of nearly two-thirds single-family detached homes. The remaining residential units are spread between low- and mid-rise buildings. The population is 1,241, with Lansdowne residents mostly being homeowners.

Lansdowne’s location allows easy access to much of south and west Edmonton via Whitemud Drive, and downtown Edmonton and the University of Alberta are just a short drive away. Many commercial amenities can be found nearby, whether at the large Southgate Centre or in local community-level convenience plazas. Green space in Lansdowne includes the large Whitemud Creek Ravine immediately bordering the community and the central Lansdowne Park, which offers a playground, sports fields, a skating rink, and tennis courts, as well as the Lansdowne Community League and Lansdowne Elementary School.
