La Perle is a large community in west Edmonton, named after Eleodore Joseph (Leo) LaPerle, who operated a general store in the area for four decades. The community’s boundaries are found at 178 Street to the east, the Anthony Henday Drive corridor to the west, 95 Avenue to the south, and 100 Avenue to the north. La Perle was developed through the 1980s and 90s, with around 50% of La Perle being made up of single-family detached homes. The remainder is split between townhouses and low-rise condo buildings, mostly located in the south eastern part of the community. The population of La Perle is 4,847, and the majority of the residents are homeowners.
La Perle’s location allows easy access to many industrial employment areas throughout the west end, the adjacent West Edmonton Mall, and many other parts of west and south Edmonton via the Anthony Henday Drive ring road. Many commercial amenities, besides those at West Edmonton Mall, can be found at Mayfield Common, Terra Losa Shopping Centre, and along 100 Avenue and Stony Plain Road immediately north of the community. There is also a small convenience plaza, found near the centre of La Perle. The primary feature of the community’s green space is sports fields, with numerous facilities found in two different parts of La Perle, besides the playground, skating rinks, and La Perle Community League. La Perle School is found within the community, while other schools are found nearby. Misercordia Community Hospital is found nearby on 87 Avenue.
