King Edward Park is a long, narrow community in south central Edmonton, named for King Edward VII, eldest son of Queen Victoria. King Edward Park is bordered in the west by the southern part of the Mill Creek Ravine. Other boundaries of the community include 82 Avenue to the north, Argyll Road and the Sherwood Park Freeway to the east, and 76 Avenue to the south. The community was developed primarily in the 1950s, and real estate in King Edward Park is more than half single-family detached homes, nearly one-quarter townhouses and duplexes, and nearly one-quarter low-rise apartments and condos. The population is 4,248, with King Edward Park residents split between renters and homeowners.
King Edward Park’s location allows easy access to downtown Edmonton, Concordia University, and the University of Alberta, as well as the trendy Whyte Ave/Old Strathcona district. Other parts of south Edmonton are also a short drive away, and the French Campus Saint-Jean is located a few blocks north. Many commercial amenities can be found nearby, whether at the adjacent Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre or in local community-level convenience plazas, as well as around Whyte Ave and in the greater downtown area. King Edward Park extends into green space to the west, the Mill Creek Ravine. Multi-use trails can be found here, continuing deep into the ravine. At the edge of the ravine, you'll find baseball diamonds, the Donnan Arena, and Shamrock Curling Club. Meanwhile, other parks across King Edward Park provide a playground, sports fields, tennis courts, a skating rink, and the King Edward Park Community League. Al Mustafa Academy and Donnan School are found within King Edward Park, while Avonmore Elementary/Junior High School is found in the adjacent community of Avonmore. King Edward Park also contains numerous churches.
