Jackson Heights, a small community in south-east Edmonton, within Mill Woods, is named in honour of Annie B. Jackson, who in 1912 became the first female police officer in Canada. She received worldwide acclaim when her photograph appeared on the front page of the London Daily Mirror on August 8, 1913. Several streets and crescents within Jackson Heights are named after historical figures. The community was designed in a triangle pattern with its boundaries being 50 Street to the west, Whitemud Drive to the north, and a utility corridor to the east and south that has been developed into an open green space. Jackson Heights was originally developed in the 1970s, and is made up of nearly 90% single-family detached homes, with the remaining real estate being duplexes and row housing scattered throughout Jackson Heights. The population is 3,977, with the majority of Jackson Heights residents owning their homes.

The location of Jackson Heights allows for easy access to many industrial employment areas throughout south and east Edmonton, including the adjacent industrial park north of Whitemud Drive. It's also a short drive to Mill Woods Town Centre and the Anthony Henday Ring Road via 50 Street or Whitemud Drive. The residents of Jackson Heights are served by a small commercial site which offers a Circle K gas station, Hair Wizardry Salon & Barber, Sun Depot Tanning Studio, places to eat, and more. Many further commercial amenities can be found nearby at Mill Woods Town Centre and South Edmonton Common. The main recreational focus of Jackson Heights is Annie May Jackson Park, located centrally, which offers residents a playground, soccer fields, a baseball diamond, and Jackson Heights School, but there are a lot of other outdoor options available. Besides the utility corridor that runs along the edge of the neighbourhood, part of the Mill Creek Ravine crosses through the southern portion of Jackson Heights. Jackie Parker Park, Jackie Parker Off Leash Dog Park, and the Jackie Parker Rink are adjacent to the community across 50 Street. The Mill Woods Golf Course is only a little further. Evangel Pentecostal Assembly is located within the community.
