Inglewood is a community in west central Edmonton. The community’s boundaries are found at 121 Street to the east, Groat Road to the west, 118 Avenue to the north, and 111 Avenue to the south. Inglewood began development in the 1910s, as the streetcar line was built along 124 Street north to 118 Avenue. This streetcar operated until 1948. Inglewood was initially developed as a low-density community, with properties consisting almost entirely of single-family detached homes, though this began to change in the 1950s, when larger medium- and higher-density buildings began to be developed. Today, around 25% of the dwelling units within Inglewood are single-family, while nearly 60% of the community is made up of low-rise apartments and condos. These are mostly found along 124 Street and 118 Avenue. The remainder of the real estate in Inglewood is made up of duplexes and taller buildings. The population of Inglewood is 5,922, with residents primarily being renters.
Inglewood’s location allows easy access to many industrial employment areas throughout the west end, to St Albert and the University of Alberta via Groat Road, and downtown Edmonton is just a short drive away. Westmount Centre, located in adjacent Woodcroft and immediately across Groat Road, offers a Safeway, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Home Depot, Walmart, banks, clinics and numerous other stores, services, restaurants, and more. A branch of the Edmonton Public Library is also located here. Many further commercial amenities can be found nearby at Kingsway Mall or along Kingsway Road or 118 Avenue. Besides a few scattered greenspaces around Inglewood, including along the entire eastern boundary of the community, the large Coronation Park is located in Woodcroft at the intersection of 111 Avenue and 142 Street, with the TELUS World of Science, large grounds, a bowling green, the Coronation Arena, Peter Hemingway Fitness and Leisure Centre, Inglewood Community League, and Ross Sheppard School. Within Inglewood, you'll find Inglewood School, Westmount School, and St. Andrew School. Other notable landmarks in Inglewood include a campus of Norquest College, St. Andrew Centre, Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Seminary, Edmonton Church of Christ, and the Inglewood Community League.
