Hodgson is a prestigious community in south-west Edmonton, named for John Hodgson, who worked for the City of Edmonton as the chief audit clerk, city comptroller, and financial commissioner for nearly 40 years after coming from England in 1913. The community's boundaries are found at the Whitemud Creek Ravine to the east, Rabbit Hill Road to the west, a utility corridor to the north, and 23 Avenue to the south. Development in Hodgson began early in the 2000s, continuing into the 2010s. Housing in Hodgson is primarily made up of single-family detached homes, with these making up more than 60% of Hodgson real estate. Two low-rise condo buildings around the perimeter of the community comprise over 30%, while the remainder are duplexes found in a single development. The population is 2,714, with the majority of Hodgson residents owning their homes.

Hodgson's location allows easy access to commercial and employment opportunities throughout a large part of Edmonton via 23 Avenue. The Anthony Henday Drive ring road and Whitemud Drive, a short drive south and north respectively, open up easy access to services around Edmonton. Hodgson residents are served by amenities around the intersection of 23 Avenue and Rabbit Hill Road, which provides a Save-On-Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, gyms, banks, food options, shops, and much more. Further amenities can be found a short drive away at the Currents at Windermere, which offers many of the larger commercial amenities. South Edmonton Common and Southgate Centre are also located nearby. There is extensive green space spread throughout Hodgson, including several small ponds and a large park area, which offers a playground, sports fields, and more, with multi-use trails continuing through the community and beyond. The Whitemud Creek Ravine, which encloses much of the eastern part of Hodgson, also offers abundant outdoor recreation opportunities in the form of walking trails and sanctuaries. Mother Margaret Mary Catholic High School, Archbishop Joseph MacNeil Catholic Elementary/Junior High School, Lillian Osborne High School, Esther Starkman School, and Monsignor William Irwin Catholic School are located in adjacent communities, and the Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre nearby offers residents of the area many recreational activities.
