Hazeldean is a community in south central Edmonton, bordered to the east by the southern end of the Mill Creek Ravine. Other boundaries of the community include 72 Avenue to the north, 99 Street to the west, and 63 Avenue to the south. The community was developed primarily in the 1950s, though some construction had taken place as early as 1912, when the area was amalgamated into Edmonton as part of the City of Strathcona. Real estate in Hazeldean is almost entirely comprised of single-family detached homes, with a few scattered duplexes. A further 15% of the residential units are found in townhouses. The population is 3,273, with the majority of Hazeldean residents being homeowners.

Hazeldean’s location allows easy access to downtown Edmonton and the University of Alberta, as well as the trendy Whyte Ave/Old Strathcona district. Other parts of south Edmonton are also a short drive away, including industrial employment areas through south and east Edmonton. Many commercial amenities can be found nearby, whether at the nearby Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre or in local community-level convenience plazas, as well as around Whyte Ave and in the greater downtown area. Hazeldean ends against green space to the east, which extends into the Mill Creek Ravine. Multi-use trails can be found here, continuing deep into the ravine. These also reach through Hazeldean along an old railway right-of-way north of 68 Avenue. Meanwhile, Hazeldean Park, located centrally, is a more typical city park, offering sports fields, picnic facilities, a playground, splash park, and the Hazeldean Community League. Hazeldean School is also located here, while J.H. Picard School and St. Margaret Center for Diverse Learning are found in other parts of the community. École Joseph-Moreau is located in adjacent Ritchie. Another landmark within Hazeldean is the Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre, a continuing care centre and auxilary hospital offering long-term care for elderly patients.
