Haddow is a small community in south-west Edmonton. The community is named in honour of Albert Walker "Bert" Haddow, Edmonton's city engineer for 40 years. During his tenure he oversaw many developments including the city centre airport, Riverside Golf Course, and the transformation of former landfills into recreation areas. The community's boundaries are found at Terwillegar Drive to the east, the Anthony Henday D to the south and south-west, the North Saskatchewan River valley to the north-west, and a utility right-of-way to the north. Haddow Drive bisects the community, proving residents with easy access to city bus services. Development in Haddow occurred during the late 1990s. Housing is made up of 70% single-family detached homes, with the remaining housing being a combination of low-medium rise apartment buildings, row-housing and duplexes. The population is 4,192, with the majority of Haddow residents owning their homes.
Haddow's location allows easy access to commercial and employment opportunities throughout a large part of Edmonton via Riverbend Road as it turns into 23 Avenue and along Terwillegar Drive. The adjacent Anthony Henday Drive ring road opens up easy access to services around Edmonton. Haddow residents are served by amenities in the Terwillegar Professional Centre, which offers Dental Oasis, The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, other medical clinics, eateries, and more. Further amenities can be found a short drive away at the Currents at Windermere, which offers many of the larger commercial amenities such as Walmart, Cabela's, Home Depot, Safeway, Cineplex Odeon, multiple restaurants, banks, and numerous other food options, stores, services, and more. The Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre in the adjacent community of Leger offers residents of Haddow many recreational activities. Although there are no schools currently located within Haddow, residents have access to Mother Margaret Mary Catholic School, Archbishop Joseph MacNeil Catholic School, and Lillian Osborne High School in the neighbouring community of Leger, as well as several other schools nearby. Haddow contains a number of different green spaces, including Haddow Park, located centrally, which offers a playground, soccer fields, and other sports fields. Easy access to the river valley park trails and Fort Edmonton Park, to the north, give Haddow a unique feel and a lot of opportunities to be outdoors. The Solicitor General Justice Staff Training Centre is located in the northwest corner of the community.
