Gold Bar is a community in east Edmonton, originally part of an area known as Gold Bar Farms. The name is likely a reference to gold prospectors' success in this section of the North Saskatchewan River. The community’s boundaries are found blending into the Capilano community to the north above Gold Bar Park, at Gold Bar Ravine to the east, 101 Avenue to the south, and 50 Street to the west. The community was developed in the 1950s, continuing into the 60s. The community is made up of around 75% single-family detached homes, with a few scattered duplexes, and 20% townhouses. The remainder of residential units are found in a few low-rise apartment buildings. The population is 2,799, with the majority of Gold Bar residents being homeowners.

Gold Bar’s location allows easy access to downtown Edmonton, located across the river to the west, Concordia University, and the University of Alberta, as well as the trendy Whyte Ave/Old Strathcona district. Extensive industrial employment areas are also within a short drive, whether in north-east, east, or south Edmonton. Many commercial amenities can be found nearby, whether at Capilano Mall or the nearby Bonnie Doon Shopping Centre, as well as in the greater downtown area. There are also local conveniences within Gold Bar and nearby. Gold Bar is half-surrounded by green space, with the Gold Bar Ravine forming the eastern boundary of Gold Bar and extending into the northern and southern parts of the community. In this ravine, you'll find Gold Bar Park, offering extensive multi-use trails, off-leash areas, picnic facilities, two lakes, and a bridge linking to the larger Rundle Park. Tiger Goldstick Park is located adjacent to the community as well, featuring better-kept ball diamonds and a soccer field. Several smaller parks within Gold Bar offer a playground, splash park, sports fields, a skating rink, and the Gold Bar Community League. The Ottewell Curling Club & Golf Driving Range is located in the south-east corner of Gold Bar. Gold Bar School and Genesis Early Learning Centre are in Gold Bar, as well as the Mt. Carmel Bible College.
