Glengarry’s name means “rough water glen,” and the community is named after a Scottish glen in Inverness-shire. The community is bounded by 132 Avenue to the south, 82 Street to the east, 137 Avenue to the north, and 97 Street to the west. Glengarry was developed mostly through the 1960s, though some development occurred before and after this time. The community is a varied mix of uses, with several commercial spaces at the fringes and a blend of housing types within the community. A little more than half of the homes in Glengarry are single-family detached, while the remainder are primarily townhouses and condos/apartments with some duplexes mixed in. Glengarry’s population is 3,009, with a wide age range. The majority of Glengarry residents own their homes and have lived in the community long-term.

Glengarry is located adjacent to 97 Street near Yellowhead Trail, making for easy access to various industrial areas around Edmonton and Sherwood Park as well as to downtown Edmonton. Northgate Centre is located in the northwest part of Glengarry, with North Town Centre across 137 Avenue to the north. Together these centres offer a Walmart, Safeway, T&T Supermarket, Indigo, London Drugs, Bed Bath and Beyond, banks, food, and much more. Glengarry has a large park, the Glengarry Park, as well as several small “pocket” parks scattered throughout the community. The Glengarry Park offers the Glengarry Arena, Glengarry Community League, Glengarry Child Care Society, O’Leary Fitness and Leisure Centre, playground, and two schools. These schools are the St. Cecilia Junior High and Archbishop O’Leary Catholic High. Other schools include the Glengarry School and Queen Elizabeth School. Numerous churches are within Glengarry or immediately adjacent, including Pilgrim United, Disciples Church, Northgate Baptist, St. Constantin Romanian Orthodox, and St. Matthew Roman Catholic.
