Glastonbury is a community in far west Edmonton, within The Grange area plan. The community's name refers to Glastonbury, England, a monastery estate famous from the legend of King Arthur and the Holy Grail. Glastonbury's boundaries are found at 62 Avenue to the south, the Anthony Henday Drive corridor to the east, Whitemud Drive to the north, and the adjacent community of Granville to the west at Guardian Road and a pipeline corridor. The community began development in the late 1990s, and very recently completed. Glastonbury is made up of a little more than half single-family detached homes and one-quarter low-rise condo buildings, with the remainder of real estate in the community split between duplexes, townhouses, and mid-rise buildings. The population at the 2016 census was 6,393, with the majority of Glastonbury residents being homeowners.
Glastonbury's location allows easy access across south and west Edmonton via the nearby Anthony Henday Drive ring road, and Whitemud Drive also provides a quick commute to numerous industrial and commercial areas within south Edmonton. Many commercial amenities are found nearby, including at both the north and south ends of Glastonbury. Here, you'll find a Safeway, Save-On-Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, eateries, banks, and more, with further commercial development taking place. A little further, at Winterburn Road or Stony Plain Road, you'll find more amenities, or at the large West Edmonton Mall. The River Cree Casino and Resort is located across Winterburn Road. Extensive green space exists within and near Glastonbury, beginning with several lakes and ponds and community parks, all interconnected by multi-use trails through the community and continuing along utility corridors. A larger district park is also under construction within the nearby Lewis Estates, offering a large recreation centre with dive tank, pool, gyms, and skating rinks, a branch of the Edmonton Public Library, a splash park, skate park, and more. Sister Annata Brockman Elementary/Junior High School, Bessie Nichols School, and Kim Hung School are located in adjacent communities.
