Falconer Heights is a small community in south-west Edmonton. The community is named in honour of James F. Falconer, a member of various city, civic, and school boards for 27 years. The community’s boundaries are found at Riverbend Road to the west, Rabbit Hill Road to the north, Terwillegar Drive to the east and a utility right-of-way to the south beyond Falconer Road. Development in Falconer Heights began around 1985, with the majority of construction occurring in the 1990s. Housing is made up of 50% single-family detached homes, with scattered duplexes, row-houses, and several low rise condo buildings making up the remainder. The population is 1,967, with Falconer Heights residents split between homeowners and renters.
Falconer Heights' location allows easy access to commercial and employment opportunities throughout a large part of south and west Edmonton via the nearby Whitemud Drive and Riverbend Road as it turns into 23 Avenue. The Anthony Henday Drive ring road opens up easy access to services around Edmonton. Falconer Heights residents are serviced by Riverbend Square, which offers Shoppers Drug Mart, Riverbend Registry Services, hair salons, multiple restaurants, banks and numerous other food options, stores, services, and more. A branch of the Edmonton Public Library is located here. Further commercial amenities can be found a short drive away at the Currents at Windermere. The Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre is also nearby. Falconer Heights does not offer a school to residents, but the main park features a preserved mature tree stand, a playground and a landscaped area to sit and relax in. Easy access to the river valley park trails and Fort Edmonton Park to the north gives Falconer Heights a unique feel and a lot of opportunities to be outdoors. A future school site in the adjacent Henderson Estates community will soon be available for Falconer Heights residents, meanwhile St. Mary Catholic School and Earl Buxton School are located in the neighbouring community of Rhatigan Ridge to the north.
