Edgemont is a developing community in far south-west Edmonton. Edgemont's boundaries are found at the Wedgewood Creek ravine to the south-east, the Anthony Henday Drive corridor to the east, 45 Avenue and Lessard Road to the north, and Winterburn Road (215 Street) to the west. The community plan was established in 2011, and began development soon after. A small group of existing acreage properties exist at the north end of the community. The development plan calls for a majority of single-family detached homes, with several rows of townhouses and some low-rise condo buildings and other medium-density use such as duplexes. Currently, two-thirds of the community is low-density residential with the remaining third being medium-density. The population at the 2016 census was 1,536, with the majority of Edgemont residents being homeowners.

Edgemont's location allows easy access to south and west Edmonton, as well as around the outskirts of the city, via the adjacent Anthony Henday Drive ring road. This route offers a quick commute to numerous industrial and commercial employment areas. Many commercial amenities are found nearby and within the community, including several community-level convenience plazas around Lessard Road, as well as an existing plaza at Callingwood Road to the north. Here, you'll find a Save-On-Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, banks, restaurants, and more. Further commercial development is continuing in the area. A little further, within Callingwood or Lessard, you'll find more amenities, or at the large West Edmonton Mall. The River Cree Casino and Resort is located to the north along Winterburn Road. Extensive green space is planned within Edgemont, beginning with numerous small ponds, a community park, and tree stands and natural areas, all interconnected by multi-use trails. The Wedgewood Creek ravine, forming the southern boundary of the community, offers abundant green space and recreational opportunities as well. Besides the older Parkland Immanuel Christian School, a new school is planned for the centre of Edgemont as well as several more in adjacent Riverview communities, but meanwhile, Sister Annata Brockman Elementary/Junior High School and Bessie Nichols School are located within the adjacent community of The Hamptons.
