Donsdale is a community in west Edmonton, named for Frank Doncaster, who owned a large tract of land in the area in the mid-1940s. The community’s boundaries are found at 184 Street to the west, Lessard Road to the north, the North Saskatchewan River valley to the east, and a small branch of the Wedgewood Ravine to the south. Donsdale was developed through the late 1990s and 2000s, though some pre-existing large-lot properties can still be found near the river and ravine. The majority of Donsdale is made up of single-family detached homes, with a low-rise condo building, a retirement residence, making up most of the remaining residential units. The population of Donsdale is 1,474, and the vast majority of residents own their homes.

Donsdale’s location allows easy access to the nearby West Edmonton Mall and many other parts of south and west Edmonton via the Anthony Henday Drive ring road. Many commercial amenities, besides those at West Edmonton Mall, can be found at The Marketplace at Callingwood, located a little north of Donsdale. Here, you’ll find a Safeway, Liquor Depot, Shoppers Drug Mart, a farmer’s market, convenience, food, banks, and numerous other stores and services. There is also a small plaza within the adjacent community of Dechene, offering grocery, gas, food, coffee, and several other conveniences. Ample green space is found at the river valley and ravine, with trails easily accessible. Nearby schools include Good Shepherd Catholic School and S. Bruce Smith School.
