Cromdale is a small, oddly-shaped community in east central Edmonton. Its name means “crooked valley”, and there is also a place in Scotland with this name. The community’s boundaries are found at 84 Street and the LRT tracks to the west, 112, 113, and 114 Avenues to the north, 76 Street to the east, and Jasper Avenue and the river valley to the south. The community spans the Kinnaird Ravine. Cromdale is one of Edmonton's older inner-city communities, beginning development before 1910, with the construction of the streetcar through the centre of what is now Cromdale. The community was mostly built as single-family homes, and in the 1960s, much of western Cromdale increased in density with the construction of numerous apartments. Today, Cromdale real estate is dominated by low-rise apartments and condos, responsible for 70% of the residential units found here. The remainder of the homes here are split between single-family detached homes, prevalent across the eastern parts of the community, and the taller apartment buildings found along Jasper Avenue. The population of Cromdale is 2,059, with residents primarily being renters.

 

Cromdale’s location allows easy access to NAIT, Grant MacEwan, University of Alberta, and Concordia University, while downtown Edmonton is also just a short drive away. The community is highly walkable, and has excellent transit connections, including an LRT station at the west edge of Cromdale. There are numerous commercial amenities within Cromdale or nearby, including the large Kingsway Mall and the commercial centres of greater downtown Edmonton. Within Cromdale, you'll find a plaza with a Save On Foods and several food options, as well as other stores and services. Cromdale contains extensive green space, most obviously the large Kinnaird Ravine dividing the community in two. Between this and the North Saskatchewan River Valley, numerous multi-use trails await. Immediately adjacent to Cromdale, the large Borden Park offers a playground, sports fields, picnic facilities, gardens, and tennis courts. There are no schools in Cromdale, though Virginia Park School, St. Theresa of Calcutta Elementary School, Parkdale School, and St. Alphonsus Catholic Elementary/Junior High School are all very close to Cromdale's boundaries. Other notable landmarks in Cromdale include Norwood Legion, East Edmonton Health Centre, and a community garden.
