Carlton is part of The Palisades, within the Castledowns area. The community is named after Fort Carlton at the junctions of the North and South Saskatchewan rivers. Carlton is bordered by 167 and 153 Avenues to the north and south, Oxford to the east between 133 and 134 Streets, and Rampart Industrial to the west past 141 Street. Carlton is quite new, with the bulk of development occurring after the mid-2000s. 70% of the community is made up of single-family homes, with the remainder being condos, duplexes and row houses. Carlton’s population is 4,933, with many young families, and more than half own their homes.
Carlton is located very close to the Anthony Henday Drive ring road, making it ideal for connections to other parts of the city, to St Albert, and to CFB Edmonton at Namao. Carlton includes a lake and several parks and green spaces, including Carlton Park. Elizabeth Finch School is located on this park. Also nearby, in the Rampart Industrial neighbourhood, are the Victoria Soccer Club, Canadian Athletic Club, and Henry Singer Park, which has numerous sporting facilities. A Walmart, Sobeys, and several banks, food services, and other shops are located at the Newcastle Shopping Centre just east on 167 Avenue. The North Pointe Community Church is located at the north-west corner of Carlton.
