Cameron Heights is a community in west Edmonton, named for John Cameron, a pioneer and businessman who lived in the area. He was the first president of Edmonton’s Board of Trade, and a chairman of the Edmonton School Board. The community’s boundaries are found at the Wedgewood Ravine to the north-west, Anthony Henday Drive to the south-west, and the North Saskatchewan River valley to the north and east. Cameron Heights began development through the 2000s, and continues today. The majority of Cameron Heights development thus far is made up of single-family detached homes, with more medium-density planned for the future. The population of Cameron Heights in 2016 was 1,643, and the vast majority of residents own their homes.
Cameron Heights’s location allows easy access to many other parts of south and west Edmonton via the Anthony Henday Drive ring road. Many commercial amenities, besides those at West Edmonton Mall, can be found at Windermere and at Callingwood Road off the Anthony Henday Drive, offering a full range of shopping, conveniences, restaurants, a cinema, and much more. Ample green space is found at the river valley and ravine, with trails easily accessible. A central park area offers a playground, with schools planned. Other green spaces around the community include multi-use trails and small ponds. Nearby schools include Good Shepherd Catholic School, S. Bruce Smith School, Michael A. Kostek School, and Bessie Nichols School.
