Callingwood South is a community in west Edmonton. The community’s boundaries are found at 170 Street to the east, 178 Street to the west, 69 Avenue to the north, and Callingwood Road to the south. Callingwood South was developed through the 1970s, and all of Callingwood South is made up of medium and high-density development. More than half of the dwelling units in the community are found in low-rise apartment buildings, while 25% are in high-rise apartment buildings. The remainder of homes in the community are townhouses. The population of Callingwood South is 5,508, and the residents are mostly renters.

Callingwood South’s location allows easy access to many industrial employment areas throughout the west end, the nearby West Edmonton Mall, downtown Edmonton, and many other parts of south and west Edmonton via Whitemud Drive. Many commercial amenities, besides those at West Edmonton Mall, can be found at The Marketplace at Callingwood, located within Callingwood South. Here, you’ll find a Safeway, Liquor Depot, Shoppers Drug Mart, a farmer’s market, convenience, food, banks, and numerous other stores and services. The large Callingwood Park covers nearly half the land area in adjacent Callingwood North, immediately across 69 Avenue, and offers off-leash areas, a spray park, skate park, picnic sites, numerous sports fields, a tree stand, the Callingwood Twin Arenas, a recycling depot, a branch of the Edmonton Public Library, and a YMCA. Within Callingwood South, a smaller park is home to a playground, sports fields, and two schools: Our Lady of the Prairies and the Talmud Torah School. Also nearby are St. Martha School, Blessed Oscar Romero High Schooln and Callingwood Elementary School. Misercordia Community Hospital is located just north, on 87 Avenue at 170 Street.
