Blackmud Creek is a community in far south-west Edmonton, within the Heritage Valley area. The community is named for the Blackmud Creek, which runs around its south and east boundaries. Its other boundaries are found at Ellerslie Road to the north and James Mowatt Trail to the west. The community was developed primarily through the late 1990s into the 2000s, while roughly two-thirds of the real estate here is made up of single-family detached homes. Nearly 30% is made up of low-rise condo buildings, with the remainder being scattered duplexes. The population is 2,763, and the vast majority of Blackmud Creek residents are homeowners.
Blackmud Creek's location allows easy access across south and east Edmonton via the nearby Anthony Henday Drive ring road, and Calgary Trail also provides a quick commute to Nisku, Leduc, and the Edmonton International Airport. Many commercial amenities are found nearby, including within and adjacent to the community of Blackmud Creek around the intersection of Ellerslie Road and James Mowatt Trail. Here, you'll find a Sobeys, Save-On-Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, eateries, banks, and more. Further, the Heritage Valley Town Centre, Currents at Windermere, or South Edmonton Common are also located nearby. Extensive green space exists within Blackmud Creek, beginning with the Blackmud Creek Ravine surrounding half the community, and continuing along multi-use trails past a pond into a park area. This park offers a playground, sports fields, picnic facilities, and the Roberta MacAdams School. Johnny Bright School and Monsignor Fee Otterson Elementary/Junior High School are also located in the adjacent community of Rutherford.
