Belle Rive’s name comes from the French for “beautiful shores”, following the naming pattern of the Lake District. The neighbourhood is situated in northeast Edmonton, between 153 and 167 Avenues to the north and south, with 82 Street forming its eastern boundary. The western border follows between 89 and 90 Streets and is shared with Eaux Claires. Other adjacent communities are Mayliewan to the east, Evansdale to the south, and Klarvatten north. Some of the first homes in the area were built during 1980s with more residential development to follow in the 1990s and later. Belle Rive contains a variety of different styles of single detached homes, with a few duplexes and row housing thrown into the mix. The 3,734 residents are mostly families who own their homes.
Belle Rive is well-located: 97 Street will take you to the Anthony Henday Drive with easy access to the rest of the city, or to downtown Edmonton and Yellowhead Trail. Belle Rive has two ponds just blocks away from each other as well as Belle Rive Park and Poplar District park in the northeast corner. The Florence Hallock Public Elementary & Junior High School is also found in Belle Rive. Public transit and shopping can be found across Eaux Claires, including a Sobeys, Save-On-Foods, No Frills, Shoppers Drug Mart, Canadian Tire, Lowe’s, banks, food, and numerous other stores and services.
