Allendale is a community in south central Edmonton. The community’s boundaries are found at Calgary Trail to the east, 109 Street to the west, 70 Avenue to the north, and 61 Avenue to the south. Allendale was developed primarily in the 1950s, though some construction began before this time. The community is predominantly single-family detached homes, with a number of duplexes, fourplexes, and low-rise apartments and condos. The population is 2,739, with Allendale residents split between renters and homeowners.
Allendale’s location allows easy access to much of south and west Edmonton via Whitemud Drive and Calgary Trail, and downtown Edmonton is just a short drive away along Gateway Boulevard. Many commercial amenities can be found nearby along the Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard corridor, including a Home Depot, Staples, Superstore, and numerous food and coffee options as well as community-level conveniences. There is a central park area within Allendale, offering a community garden, playground, skating rink, sports fields, tennis and basketball courts, the Allendale Community League, and Allendale School.
