SOUTHWEST - Blue Quill/Sweetgrass/Ermineskin

This area, between 34th Ave and 23rd Ave is relatively new, and the communities here and to the south have taken on Indian names like lue Quill, Sweetgrass and Erminsikin. The community's focal point is the large Heritage Mall, though the large parks in the middle of each neighbourhood provide plenty of recreational space. These communities were built during the 1970s and 1980s booms, and include a wide range of affordable middle-income housing. The nicer properties are to the west where Blue Quill Estates are built into a bend in the Whitemud Creek, just north of where it is joined by the Blackmud Creek.

SCHOOLS
The community has 2 public elementary schools and a Catholic elementary school, with high schools for the public and the Catholic board a mile north of the community.

SHOPPING
The area is built around Heritage Mall in the middle, and is relatively close to the stores and restaurants along Calgary Trail.

RECREATION
The area has a number of large recreational park areas, but is very close to the Whitemud and Blackmud ravine systems to the south and west of the community. There is a new YMCA recreational complex to the south of 23rd Avenue with a pool, racquet courts, and running track. The Famous Players Gateway cinema is close-by on Calgary Trail.
