This area is a major urban development that began in the 1970s, and is now a major residential area south of Whitemud and east of Calgary Trail. It was designed to be a self-contained community, so that residents would have no need to leave the community for shopping or recreation. The area is characterized by Mill Creek running through the northeastern aprt of the ocmmunity, and by the Mill Woods Town Centre in the middle. There is also the Grey Nuns Hospital and the Mill Woods campus of the Grant MacEwan College near the Town Centre. The newer communities are now being built to the east of 34th Street and include small lakes as community focal points.
